How does it work?

Blueair air purifiers combine mechanical and ionising filtration technology that allows the Blueair home air purifiers to be strong yet quiet. The Blueair filters consist of a patented three stage filter technology, which effectively captures a large range of particle pollution.

How does the Blueair Filtration Technology work?

top of page ^

The Blueair air purifiers use filters which are made up out of three different levels of millions of ultra-thin fibres. Large particles such as pollen and dust are captured in the first filter layer, and small and ultra-small particles such as bacteria and exhaust fumes are captured by the second and third filter layer.

This Three-Stage Progressive filter design prevents the Blueair filters from clogging up prematurely as simpler filters would and allows all Blueair air purifiers to perform longer at their peak performance. Many other air purifier filters are often thinner and mostly consist of the same fibre size and filter material throughout, which leads them to clog up sooner than the Blueair filter.

How noisy are the Blueair air purifiers?

top of page ^

The Blueair air purifiers are designed to operate as quietly as possible. That is why the Blueair air purifiers are built using noise softening steel. Air also passes very easily through Blueair’s filters, this means that the fan does not have to work as hard and thus is very quiet on setting one and two. The Blueair air purifiers are so quiet on setting one, that you may find yourself wondering if it is turned on - making the setting ideal for sleep environments or especially noise sensitive spaces. We would recommend to mainly run your Blueair unit on setting 3 (the highest setting) to either boost clean your home or office or in environments that are not particularly noise sensitive - as there will be significantly more sound pressure then on setting one and two.

Is the Blueair air purifier easy to use and maintain?

top of page ^

All Blueair air purifiers are very easy to use and maintain. All you need to do is plug the air purifier in and select the speed setting you want it to operate on. Blueair’s filtration technology is such that filters do not need to be washed but just need to be replaced. The grills, as well as the steel exterior, are easy to wipe clean.  The electronic units (such as the 270E, 450E and 650E) are also equiped with a filter replacement light that gives you an idea of when to replace the filter.  Alternatively, Blueair recommends to change filters every 6 month.

How easy is it to replace the filter?

top of page ^

The filter exchange in the different Blueair models could not be easier. For the 200 Series, such as the 270e, the filter can be easily accessed at the back of the unit. In the 400 Series, such as the 450e the filter can be accessed by the side panel of the unit. In 600 Series models, such as the 650e the three filters slide into place in a matter of seconds.

Do the Blueair air purifiers emit ozone?

top of page ^

Blueair air purifiers have been tested to show that the air blown out of the Blueair air purifier in the experiment had a lower ozone concentration than the air going into the machine. To minimise and contain ozone production, Blueair uses a very low electrical current and has a sealed steel housing chamber. However, ionisation will always produce some/ atheoretical amount of ozone, even if the amount can be insignificantly low. If you want to avoid ozone all together, then you should consider an air cleaner that uses mechanical/HEPA filtration.

How do I know the Blueair air purifier will actually work?

top of page ^

The Blueair range of air purifiers are high quality products that produce great results if they are used in the right way and for the right purpose. Blueair air purifiers are a good choice for everyone who wants to improve the general air quality in their home, as well as for everyone who has mild to moderate pet, dust mite or seasonal allergy.

Due to the filtration technology that is being used, all ionisers (including Blueair units) do lose filtration efficiency over time while the filter gets loaded. To find out more visit our Ioniser Information page.

Even though Blueair’s active carbon filters are called ‘SmokeStop’ filters, we would normally not recommend to use a Blueair air purifier if your primary concern is to alleviate tobacco related air pollution (especially odours and chemicals). Taking cigarette or cigar smoke out of the air is always challenging, but ionisation in combination with 0.9 kg of carbon used in the ‘SmokeStop’ filters might not be enough to achieve the best possible results.

Customer Review Blueair 450E Air Cleaner

top of page ^

customer review blueair 450e My husband and I have been living in London for four years now, and enjoy it very much. However, there are some downsides, such as the high level of air pollution in the city. At first I did not notice it, but after a little while the pollution level became very apparent. You just have to blow your nose after taking the tube or look at the collar of your shirt at the end of the day and you will see what I mean.

I started looking for an air purifier. At first, I casually checked my local Tesco and Argos stores.
