How does it work?
IQAir's mechanical filtration captures 99.95% of all particles down to 0.003 microns and thus has an unrivalled whole system filtration efficiency. IQAir air purifiers will effectively remove odour, chemicals and particulate pollutants such as fine dust, pet allergen, pollen, dust mites, viruses, bacteria, traffic pollution, VOCs, tobacco smoke and more.
IQAir Success Stories
IQAir has won more independent number one awards than any other air cleaners. Here are just a few of the endorsements:
- The Hong Kong Hospital Authority (HKHA) chose IQAir as the best air purifiers for hospital rooms for patients with SARS. IQAir provided air purifiers to more than 150 hospitals and healthcare clinics in Hong Kong to fight the SARS virus.
- The American Lung Association uses IQAir as their educational partner in its effort to create awareness about indoor air pollution.
- The USA Cycling team picked IQAir as their official supplier of air purifiers for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
- Consumer Digest awarded IQAir the "Best Buy Award" several times, and recommends IQAir's room air purifiers as the top choice for people with allergies and asthma.
What is HyperHEPA Filtration Technology?
One of the reasons that IQAir air purifiers are so effective is because of their HyperHEPA filtration technology. A HyperHEPA filter is tested and certified to have a filtration efficiency of 99.97% for all particulate pollution down to 0.3 microns, and a filtration efficiency of 99.5% down to 0.003 microns - 10 times smaller than a virus. Such efficiency allows the IQAir air cleaners to capture close to 100% of bacteria, pet allergens, mould spores, pollen, cigarette smoke and ultra-fine particulate pollution from cars, trains and planes. Here it is important to point out that many air cleaner companies claim to offer air cleaners with similarly high filtration efficiencies. However, of all of these companies, IQAir is the only one we know of that does not make false claims in regard to the whole system filtration efficiency of their air purifiers. Each IQAir air purifier is individually tested and certified for its actual air delivery and filtration efficiency. Furthermore, each unit comes with a Certificate of Performance based on that individual unit's performance. Thus, each IQAir air purifier meets the advertised performance - a guarantee that no other manufacturer offers.
‘Whole system filtration efficiency’ and ‘actual filtration efficiency’ are two ways of saying that the IQAir air purifiers are leakage free. All the polluted air that passes through the unit will pass through the filter, and thus will be cleaned. Many (most) air purifier manufacturers claim high filtration efficiency for their air purifier, which in actuality only refers to the theoretical filtration efficiency of the air purifier's filter itself, not the unit as a whole. Sounds misleading? You are absolutely right. The industry is not regulated and most air cleaner manufacturers are ‘bending the truth’ in order to remain competitive. They are actively misleading customers about the product they are selling.
What room size does an IQAir cover?
A unit such as the HealthPro 250 covers an area of approximately 50-75 square meters at an average home ceiling height of 2.5 meters. If doors to adjacent rooms are left open, this area space and hallways will also benefit from clean air produced by the IQAir air purifier. Please keep in mind, however, that the ultimate efficiency depends on the pollution concentration and the speed setting at which the unit is operated.
Where should I place my IQAir air purifier?
We recommend you place the unit in your bedroom since that is where you spend most of your time. If you are very noise conscious you should set it on a lower setting and adjust to a higher level during the day. Alternatively, you can keep your IQAir air purifier in an area where you spend a lot of time. Each unit comes with casters and can be easily wheeled to a different location.
Does an IQAir produce ozone?
Ozone is a very strong lung irritant and can cause severe harm to humans and animals. Ozone is produced by ozone generators, ionisers and electronic air cleaners. Even small amounts of ozone are undesirable and can be harmful to allergy and asthma sufferers as it functions as asthma and allergy triggers. All IQAir air purifiers are 100% ozone-free.
Does an IQAir have a timer?
Yes. Each IQAir air purifier comes with a digital display screen and an advanced timer that allows you to program different fan speeds at different times. You can, for example, set a convenient fan speed for day-time and another fan speed for night-time use. If you are using your IQAir air purifier at work you can set it to switch off automatically during non-work hours.
What is the life expectancy of the filters?
On an average usage of 12 hours per day, at an average fan speed of 2-3 and average pollution levels, the different filters can be expected to have the following life span:
- Allergen 100: PreMax: 12-15 months, HyperHEPA: 36-48 months
- HealthPro 150: PreMax MG: 9-12 months, HyperHEPA: 36-48 months
- HealthPro 250: PreMax: 12-15 months, V5-Cell: 15-18 months, HyperHEPA: 36-48 months
- GC MultiGas: GC HEPA pre-filter: 9-12 months, GC Cartridges: 18-24 months, GC Sleeves: 18-24 months
How long will the filters in an IQAir air purifier last?
How long will the filters in an IQAir air purifier last? IQAir air purifiers have an extra-long filter life because they use high quality, large surface and high capacity filters. In order to calculate the life span of the filters within any air purifier one must keep track of the following factors:
- Actual hours of usage
- The actual speed of usage
- Pollution concentration
Each IQAir air purifier has an Intelligent Filter Life Monitor. It takes these three factors into account when calculating each individual filters remaining life span.
How can I tell that the filters in my IQAir need to be replaced?
How can I tell that the filters in my IQAir need to be replaced? Each unit has an Intelligent Filter Life Monitor, which allows you to check the calculated lifetime in hours of each individual filter. When a specific filter comes to the end of its calculated life span, you will be alerted with a red LED light on the control panel that a filter needs to be changed.
I live in an area with very high pollution levels. Does the HealthPro 250 take this into account when calculating the remaining filter life?
I live in an area with very high pollution levels. Does the HealthPro 250 take this into account when calculating the remaining filter life? Yes - If you live in a busy and polluted area, you can set the pollution levels of your environment as ‘high’ or ‘very high’ by adjusting the filter load index for each individual filter to reflect the actual pollution levels more accurately.
How quiet are the IQAirs?
In order to clean the air in your bedroom, flat or house effectively, an air cleaner must:
- Have high-efficiency filters
- Be extremely well sealed or ideally leakage free
- Have a powerful fan to circulate as much air as possible through these filters
This means that no effective air cleaner can be completely silent. The key is to operate or program your IQAir to run at the speed level that is most convenient for you while at the same time achieving an appropriate number of air exchanges per hour. If you are noise sensitive then have the unit on level 1 or 2 during the night and level 3-4 for 2 hours before you go to sleep. Please be aware that if an air cleaner is advertised as truly "silent", it either has no fan, a weak fan or ineffective filters. No air cleaner produces more than 99.97% particle-free air at a lower noise level for long periods of time than an IQAir. The decibel levels at the different fan speeds are 22, 34, 41, 48, 52 and 57 dB (tolerance: +/- 3 dB).
What maintenance is required?
IQAir air purifiers are 100% maintenance free. You only have to replace the filters and we have a system in place to remind you via email when it’s advisable to do so.
For how long will IQAir filters be available?
IQAir has a solid 50-year track record in air filtration and guarantees a full 15-year availability from the day you purchased the unit for replacement filters.
