The Blueair 405 is part of the newest range of air purifiers from Blueair released in January 2017 and is the follow up model of the 450E. The Blueair 405 has an improved airflow rate of up to 20% on the highest speed setting compared to the 450E. On the highest speed setting, the Blueair 405 has an airflow rate of 595 m3/h which is more than the 475 m3/h of the 450E.
The size, weight, overall look and the filtration technology used however, is exactly the same. One of the new features of the Blueair 405 is its Wi-Fi connectablility, allowing you to connect to the air purifier via your phone and Wi-Fi network and make adjustments to how it operates. With the Blueair 405, you get a new ‘hidden’ display with touch buttons which is located under a flip-up lid on top of the unit. The Blueair 405 would be a good choice for medium sized environments and can be used at night time with its low fan settings.
The Blueair 405 is able to be paired with the ‘Blueair Aware’ air quality monitor and then set to auto mode so that the fans can adjust based on the levels of contamination detected by the sensor in the Blueair Aware.
The Blueair 405 won the “Best in test” 2017 award by Testfakta. It was one of 12 air purifiers placed under a test conducted by Testfakta which looked into the air purifiers' air cleaning performance. The Blueair 405 was given the highest overall score of all air purifiers tested. It scored 4.2/5 based on its cleaning performance at both maximum and minimum speed settings (noise level up to 37 Decibels).

The Blueair 405 air purifier uses Blueair’s typical Three-Stage Progressive Filter – a filter that resembles having several filters in one. The filter is made up out of three different levels of millions of ultra-thin fibres, and with its ‘lock-in’ design, captures and retains particles. The first layers of the filter capture larger particles like pollen and dust and the later layers capture smaller particles like bacteria and exhaust particles.
Regular air purifier filters are thinner and consist of the same fibre size and material throughout. This leads to filters being loaded sooner and either losing efficiency or requiring to be replaced. However, the unique design of the Blueair 405 Three-Stage Progressive Filter requires you to replace the filter only twice a year.
When the filter of the Blueair 405 needs to be replaced, just open the side door, and take out the old filter like you would take a book out of a bookshelf, then simply replace it with a fresh filter. No screws, hooks or tools are needed and replacing the filter only takes a couple of seconds.
